I have decided to include a blog on my web page for a number of reasons. First, it gives me a chance to vent in public about the things that bother me and believe me, in this profession I come across a lot of things that bother me. Second, I really don't believe that the average web site, including mine, gives you enough information to choose a lawyer who is right for your case. This blog will give you a more complete understanding of who I am, what I believe in, how I do my job, and whether I would be a good fit to work with you. Stay tuned. I do not intend to hold back any punches.

Hiring A Lawyer

Topic: What To Expect if you Hire Me

How should you choose a lawyer? You might be charged with a DUI or a Drug charge or a Sexual Assault charge or a murder charge. Which ever one it is it will effect your life significantly. So what should you do. I have been practicing criminal law for almost three decades. I know every criminal defense attorney in the area. If I or a family member were charged with a crime there are only a handful of those attorneys whom I would trust. If you know someone in the legal field talk to them and see who they have faith in. If you are choosing an attorney without that advice use the following criteria:

 1. Meet with the lawyer. Do you have a good feeling about him or her. Is he informative. Does he have answers to your questions readily avilable. Does he exhibit a thorough knowledge of the law.

2. How long has he been practicing criminal law. Did he spend any time with a Public Defender or District Attorney office. Does he practice exclusively criminal law.

3. Which Counties is he most familiar with.

4. Is he being honest with you. If he promises you a positive outcome he is not being honest.

5. Is he either much less or much more expensive than other attorneys. Neither one is good.

6. How many felony jury trial has he done. How many misdemeanor jury trials has he done.

7. If you talk to more than one lawyer do not be afraid to ask for an opinion about the lawyers you are meeting with.

 8. Trust, trust, trust. This person has your life in your hands. Very probably you have made a serious mistake that landed you in the lawyers office. Lawyers cannot perform miracles or turn back the hands of time. But when you hire an attorney you better not have any misgivings or doubts.

January 4, 2011. I hope everyone reading this page had a happy New Year. Unfortunately if you are reading this blog you may have had a problem or two. I spent the week from Christmas to New Year on vacation with my family in the New York area. During that week I communicated by phone with approximately six current and future clients. Ask yourself, does your lawyer accept phone calls and return phone calls every day, including wekends and vacations. He/she should. Your problems don't take days off. You deserve to receive counseling when you need it, either by phone, email or text message. I do my utmmost to make sure my clients receive that level of attention. Am I perfect? No, but I do my best to be.
